Discover the countryside: Orvieto

The Umbrian city, on the border with Lazio and Tuscany, stands majestically on a tufa cliff. Of Etruscan origin, it boasts a great artistic and historical heritage, including the Duomo, the symbol of the city and the only example of Italian Gothic-Romanesque art.

Orvieto, anciently called “Velzna” by the Etruscans, has a large historic center with beautiful squares and places of interest, all easily explored on foot. Among the main attractions, we recommend: the Palazzo del Popolo, St. Patrick’s Well, the Torre del Moro, the Pozzo della Cava, the San Giovenale district and Orvieto Underground. For lovers of history and archaeology, you can visit the Etruscan necropolis of Crocifisso del Tufo and the many museums of archaeology and ancient history.

Throughout the year, the city hosts a wide range of events, always ensuring a high level of entertainment and interest.

The most important events of the year are the Umbria Jazz Winter festival, the Umbria Folk Festival, the Festival dei Gelati d’Italia (Italian Ice Cream Festival), Orvieto in Fiore (Orvieto in Bloom) and the ancient religious and historical reenactments of Corpus Domini and the Palombella.
