20 km from Orvieto
Just past the border with Lazio, you reach Bagnoregio, an ancient village of Etruscan origin, once home to important noble families and the birthplace of St. Bonaventure (biographer of St. Francis).
The adjoining Civita di Bagnoregio, centuries ago the heart of the town, now stands on a volcanic spur that can only be reached on foot via a bridge. In recent years, Civita has become an important destination for visitors from around the world, thanks to its geological setting and the perfect preservation of its medieval architecture, both unique in the world.
An entrance ticket of €1.50 per person is required to access Civita di Bagnoregio.
